The Honeycomb Project: A Metaphor for Interconnectedness

  • The Urban Hive 730 I Street Sacramento, CA, 95814 United States (map)

At first glance, a honeycomb may seem like a simple pattern, but its beauty lies in the way each hexagonal cell works in harmony with the whole. The Honeycomb Project uses that natural form as a metaphor for community: many individual voices, each distinct, coming together to create something resilient, layered, and diverse.

This traveling exhibition brings together hundreds of small artworks by artists from across the region, each one contributing to a larger collective vision. What begins as a single hexagon becomes a shared portrait of place, collaboration, and connection, reminding us that community is built one contribution at a time.

Organized by Nevada artist and educator Candace Garlock, the project reflects on how art can knit people together across geography, experience, and background. Through image and text, The Honeycomb Project celebrates the relationships that shape us and the environments we share.
